The Super Leader
Heart’s Cry Statement
Let me take charge of the leadership team.
Highlights
Who God Made You to Be
The Super Leader is usually the primary influencer within the organization. The Super Leader is generally known by many within the ministry; possibly more by reputation than by personal relationship. The Super Leader mixes with other leaders and is a leader of leaders.
Super Leaders are visionary and change advocates. They are often the originators and architects of new ministry ventures and building campaigns. They tend to be excellent strategic planners. In their secular life, they are usually business owners or corporate executives and are accustomed to being in charge and setting direction. However, they are NOT accustomed to being challenged.
Super Leaders see themselves as living on top of the organizational pyramid. It does not matter whether this is true officially or unofficially because their influence will have the same result. As the pinnacle of the organizational pyramid, they tend to devalue input from people under them unless requested. They value competence and proven achievement and are highly result oriented.
Personalities that are more relational may find that they distrust Super Leaders because Super Leaders value results over relationships. Super Leaders will justify their perspectives by arguing that many more people will benefit if their policies and systems are implemented; and they are probably correct.
Super Leaders can be blunt and intimidating in nature. They must continually surrender this aspect of their personality to the Lordship of Jesus Christ and the sanctifying work of the Holy Spirit.
What You Can Contribute To the Ministry
The Super Leader unites and inspires other leaders to influence and impact the rest of the ministry. Whatever the Super Leader seeks to accomplish, the result is that the ministry seems to fall in line and fully support it. The Super Leader is adept at mobilizing the ministry and its ministry teams.
How Leadership Can Support You
It is important to note that God can do incredible things through a Super Leader that is mature in faith, Biblically sound, walks closely with the Lord and has a humble spirit before God and pastoral leadership. It would be wise, however, to only empower Super Leaders into prominent leadership roles if their life is truly surrendered to Christ and demonstrates the qualities outlined. Super Leaders who seek their own agenda can be devastating to a ministry. They can challenge pastoral leadership resulting in either control of the Senior Pastor and governing board, or the dismissal of the Senior Pastor and other pastoral staff. They have the strength of personality and skill that, if used inappropriately, can cause church splits. Care should be taken that Super Leaders are only placed into positions of authority once they have been tested and proved themselves to be true spiritual leaders. This principle is expressly outlined in 1Timothy 3 and Titus 1.
